Michael Jackson Memorial Program Book

Michael Jackson

One of the hottest collectibles going right now is the Michael Jackson memorial program book, tickets and wristbands that were handed out to attendees of the July 7th service held at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, CA. It may seem a bit crude to some, but keep in mind a lot of people travelled very far, missed work and spent a lot of money to be there. I suppose they figure that they were fortunate enough to be there in person so why not pay for the trip by selling the memorabilia they obtained? That makes sense to me, the memory will stay with them forever.

The programs that are in excellent shape, along with the wristband and ticket are going for as much as $400.00 on eBay and Amazon. On the low end of these collectibles are items such as a torn or damaged ticket or wristband (with no pamphlet) for as little as $25.00. Average price around $150.00-$200.00 for all three items sold as a set. Are they worth the price?

Of course only time will tell but I say an emphatic yes! Consider that first off there were only about 8,000 "sets" handed out. If only half were made available that's only 4,000. You have to figure in just a few short years many will be lost or damaged. There were approximately 1.6 million people who entered the lottery for the Jackson memorial service tickets. Nearly 30 million viewed the service on TV. That's a whole lot of interest in an item that may only number about 2 or 3 thousand in existence a few years from now. Maybe even less!

Collectibles are almost always bought for sentimental value over monetary value, as they should be. However, these program books, tickets and wristbands may hold an equally high value in both departments. After all, "The king of pop" is a world wide icon. In fact, the Michael Jackson memorial service was attended by folks worldwide as well as watched on television around the planet. Michael Jackson's legacy, value and admiration are not going away anytime soon.

As strange as it may sound, these Jackson memorial booklets being auctioned off can be looked at as a win-win scenario. People who attended the memorial service experienced something even rarer than knowing someone who was at Woodstock! Now they have a chance to get some of their costs back but they will forever have that memory and experience to talk about. Fans who couldn't make it and serious Michael Jackson collectors will have an incredible piece of memorabilia for their display if they can obtain one of the books or even just a ticket or wristband. If I had attended, there is no way I'd give mine up!

7 Signs That Michael Jackson Had an Eating Disorder

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson has died and there are speculations about the cause of his death. Stress, drug problems, weak lungs and heart and extremely low body weight are all implicated. Numerous rumours suggest that at the time of his death Michael weighted slightly over 100 pounds. Taking into consideration his height 5'.10" his BMI at the time of his death was 14.3 (compare to a healthy range BMI between 18.5 and 25.) This is about 29 pounds lower than would be considered a healthy level.

Low body weight can be a symptom of many diseases but in Michael's case, reports saying that he suffered from an eating disorder.

Eating disorders often have their own causes and certain personality traits make different people more prone to developing them. Apparently, Michael Jackson had many personality traits that would make him susceptible to developing an eating disorder. His stressful life and deprived childhood could be causes for his mental problems.

According to many sources Michael Jackson suffered from Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa.

What are the facts that could point to Michael Jackson having an eating disorder?

1. Jackson did mention publicly about how his father physically and verbally abused him as a child and how he developed an eating disorder (provoked by a fear of his father's discipline) by the age of seven.

2. After the case of alleged child "molestation" with a 13-year-old boy, Jordy Chandler, Jackson developed a drug addiction and his childhood bulimia came back to haunt him. The stress from this case put enormous pressure on fragile health of Michael. Although the charges were dropped and the boy refused to testify any further against his "best friend Michael", the damage was already done.

3. Many people who saw him closely over the last few years before his death said he was very thin and frail. They also said that he ate very little.

4. Because of the deep concern about his physical health Jackson postponed the opening night of his comeback in London by a week. Apparently he was worried about his ability to recreate his trademark exhilarating dance moves. This tiredness is also very indicative of an eating disorder; sustenance is needed to be able to do extraneous exercise, something Michael was struggling with.

It is obvious that his fatal heart attack was precipitated by weeks of strenuous fitness routines which could have contributed to his tragic death. Just a week before the tragic event he said: "I don't know how I'm going to do 50 shows. I'm not a big eater - I need to put some weight on".

5. A few months ago at his last appearance in front of the media he announced the comeback shows in London. When he made this announcement his body was skeletal and his skin was extremely pale. He had difficulties making it through the two-minute press conference.

The show's promoters were in doubt about Jackson's ability to continue with the show and some even suspected that he wouldn't even make the first concert date, so they sent a doctor to look after him.

6. Michael Jackson obviously had lots of problems regarding his body image and perfectionism. He undertook numerous plastic surgeries, changed skin color and supported different diets and body cleansing routines. All this had become his obsession and he performed these acts in very extreme unhealthy way.

7. His drug addiction also confirms his obsessive personality trait that is present it most eating disorder sufferers. Before his death he apparently was taking a cocktail of eight different prescription drugs:

- Demerol (a painkiller that was injected 3 times daily by his doctor to stop his chronic back pain),
- Dilauded (a painkiller he took orally for the same problem),
- Vicodin (the third painkiller that was prescribed recently because of the back pain),
- Soma (used for muscle relaxation, he took them orally),
- Xanax (anti anxiety drug, he took them orally, twice daily),
- Zoloft (antidepressant that influence his serotonin level in the brain, he took it orally, daily)
- Paxil (another antidepressant that influences serotonin levels in the brain),
- Antibiotics to stop skin infection after minor surgery.

This is enormous amount of drugs for anyone, even for a healthy person, but for Michael they were probably fatal.

It looks like Michael's eating disorder definitely contributed to his death. All the things make you wonder why the medical professionals who looked after Michael didn't do anything before his death about his eating problems.

You have to ask yourself why they allow him to stay on so many drugs while his body weight was extremely low. It is just another example of how little most medical professionals know or understand the seriousness of an eating disorder.

Michael would have had his eating disorder to cope with the stress in life. His Anorexia and Bulimia would have temporary made him feel good and he may have felt that nothing could hurt him while he had an eating disorder. This is quite common for suffers of an eating disorder, they actually think it is doing them good, while in reality it is killing them.

Michael had a myriad of problems we are all aware of that, but every time he was about to release a new song someone would file a law suit wanting all his money. Many people stayed around him and pretended to be close to him only for the sake of taking money from him one way or another.

The sad fact is that Michael should never have been allowed to develop an eating disorder in the first place; people who were close to him should have got him help years ago.

Eating disorder can get out on hand very quickly and can kill anyone especially if they have the same meticulous personality as Michael had: a perfectionist one.

The best way to stop this happening is to work on your mindset, educate yourself about how the brain works and how people develop these deadly obsessions. The right knowledge may help many of you to get better and not suffer the same fate as Michael Jackson.

Michael Jackson's Funeral

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The untimely death of Michel Jackson announced to the world on Friday with a suspected cardiac arrest came as a huge shock to everyone. Thoughts are now turning to Michael Jackson's Funeral and when it will be held.

Paramedics were called to the singer's Beverly Hills home at about midday on Thursday after he stopped breathing. But two hours later Jackson was pronounced dead at the UCLA Medical center.

Michel Jackson was set to make a come back tour consisting of 50 days at Wembley. The world had gone crazy with excitement at the thought of this but are now faced with huge disappointment. Many people view the music world as being a different place without the presence of Jackson who is widely seen as the king of pop.

Tributes have flooded in from other big names including Madonna, Arnold Schwarzenegger and ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley. Sir Paul McCartney described Jackson's death as " sad and shocking". Many people have said that Michael Jackson's Funeral will be even bigger the Elvis's and Princess Diana's. It is estimated that up to a million fans will flock form all over the world to go to Jackson's Funeral. The family are said to be considering whether to have a private funeral followed by a publicly aired remembrance ceremony later this week.

There is also talk that Jackson will be buried at his Neverland Ranch after he expressed wishes to his family that he wanted to be. The only problem with being buried at Neverland is that there is currently no permit to be buried on the private estate and also there are fears that the two lane road into Neverland would not cope with such an influx in traffic. Another option would be to bury him in LA's Forest Lawn Cemetery, where film legends such as Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable and Jean Harlow are buried.

Michael Jackson's Funeral is currently being decided as his coffin is under armed guard at a secret LA location after the family ordered a second autopsy. As more news is released on the exact funeral arrangements further posts will be made to update the situation. Make sure you keep watching this blog for the most up to the minute updates.

Thrill the World With Michael Jackson Tribute Day

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Michael Jackson was known as the king of pop a cultural phenomenon know worldwide for his music and dance moves. With his extreme talent he was able to break down cultural barriers and open the hearts and ears of people world wide. The untimely death of the king of pop will be felt for years much like the death of Elvis Presley.

The greatest tribute that anyone can give Michael Jackson is listening to his music and more importantly dancing to his music. Arguably his most famous song and dance is the Thriller dance which is based on the choreographed dance moves from the music video Thriller. During the song Michael Jackson transforms into a werewolf and with the help of many Zombies perform a great dance routine. This dance routine has been impersonated for many years around Halloween, however, this year the dance routine will become a tribute rather than an impersonation.

What is needed to partake in the tribute to Michael through the Thriller dance? First you must learn the dance moves. The moves themselves are not that complex and there are plenty of videos that you can watch. Second, you must get yourself either a Michael Jackson costume or a Zombie costume. It is better to choose a Zombie costume as you would ideally only want one Michael at any tribute. Finally, you need to organize your friends to coordinate the tribute dance. The date this year for the dance is October 25th, 2009. It is important to plan early in-order to get your friends and costumes together.

To this day Elvis is still cherished and loved worldwide and impersonated in Las Vegas and around the world. The thriller dance should and could become a tribute to Michael Jackson much like dressing as Elvis is a tribute to the King of Rock and Roll. This year gather your friends to pay your respects to the king of pop in the form of dance.

How to Sell Michael Jackson Items and Memorabilia on eBay

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Michael Jackson is undoubtedly one of the biggest pop stars that ever lived. His memorabilia has always been popular worldwide, even more so since his passing. Items such as concert items, autographs, first release albums and CDs are in high demand as people attempt to honour the king of pop in the only way they know. eBay is a great way to buy and sell items of rock and pop memorabilia and since its creation the memorabilia industry has gone through the roof. eBay has made buying and selling memorabilia more accessible and you can find some real bargains.

If you check the listings on eBay, Michael Jackson items have a very large number. If you have ever considered selling your Michael Jackson items then there has never been a better time than now. But as there is so much competition nowadays, how can you make the most profit possible? This short guide will show you how to sell your prized Michael Jackson memorabilia on eBay and get the best possible result.

Firstly you need to take a look at your collection and arrange it all together. You need to assess the condition of the items, although they don't need to be in mint condition, they certainly need to be in fairly good condition. Of course mint condition items of memorabilia will fetch more money but in general, all Michael Jackson pieces sell well.

Next you need to create your eBay account. Once you have done this you need to do some research into prices and the sort of items that do well on eBay. If you do a search on eBay for 'Michael Jackson' and see if any of your items or memorabilia are listed already. If they are you need to write down the prices so that you can get a good idea of what similar pieces are selling for. Getting the price right is essential to a good sale. If you price your pieces too high then you are unlikely to get any offers and getting the price too low means you could get ripped off.

People like to see what they are buying so take digital pictures of all the items you wish to sell and upload them on to your account. Now you need to go to Pay Pal and create a user account there. This is how eBay will pay you once your item sells so this is an essential part of the selling process.

You may want to consider the 'Buy It Now' pricing option on eBay instead of an auction. By using this option, you can set your own price for the item and someone can buy it immediately. You can also consider opting for a shorter auction period than normal. You shouldn't go for longer than a week, but 3 days is better. Most Michael Jackson fans want their items sooner than later so don't make them wait!

If you have multiple items to sell then it may be best to listing them all as a single package. This will allow you to pitch the price higher and it will seem like a better deal to the buyers.

You need to make it clear if any of your items are signed as this will increase interest in your memorabilia. Also, if you can prove that the autograph is authentic like a photograph or an anecdote then this will only speed up the sale of your items.

The Devil and Michael Jackson - How Business Became Him

Image : http://www.flickr.com

It may be old news to some, but I find myself still thinking about the life and death of Michael Jackson. It's not only that i spent virtually a whole day listening to, watching and downloading some of his great video performances; it's also that my need to ponder his life, its meaning, and the nature of his genius has devoured a lot of personal time.

This morning my psychotherapist mate Dr. Mallory Nash and I spent a couple of hours discussing just this: to what extent was Jackson the master of his own destiny, how many of the risks he took or shrewd business decisions he made - such as buying the Beatles back catalogue, or wresting his own from Sony - were his own, the outcome of his eccentricities? Or were these, in truth, actions of a smart entrepreneur who had real business acumen and surrounded himself with the best people to realise it?

What emerged eventually was unexpected, for the two of us found ourselves discussing Jackson not in terms of great musicians or show-biz personalities like Elvis, Sinatra, Bob Dylan or Johnny Cash, but in relation to people who were both mad and at the centre of great economic or even political empires - Robert Maxwell, Hearst, Howard Hughes - even Adolf Hitler. People who understood power, and whose personal visions and eccentricities others carried out into reality - sometimes with painful or even terrifying and historic consequences.

I don't in any away attribute "evil" to Michael Jackson; clearly that is not the case. But because of the masterful way he used the machine in which he was, at first and like so many others, just a cog, we may never really understand what was real and what was unreal about him, or where the lines between show business, character and madness lay. For instance: at what point did Jackson's body begin to refuse to do what he wanted it to? Clearly in some ways the later surgeries were desperate attempts to deal with flesh and bone that would not heal; but at what point did he decide that he should look like an anime figure? Was that decision the cause of the problem, or its effect?

And how could anyone, at fifty, to whom being top was so important, surpass the performances he'd given as a younger man? Looking at the dance footage from those previous times, and knowing about the physical wear and tear that extreme dance and its related injuries leave over time on great dancers like Nureyev, we have to ask whether the prospect of physical failure at the enormous task he'd undertaken was one of main the things that killed him. Or even... No.

Speculation is delicious, but really quite useless. Such boundaries as these - between "reality", history, fact, and fiction - are artificial, anyway - and one thing Jackson clearly understood better than anyone was the importance of leaving us ever-wanting more.

If any of the gossip surrounding his estate - such as the existence of a large catalogue of unpublished songs - is true, Jackson's influence on the business world will outlive him by many many years. Not only because of his prodigious talent as a performer but also because of his insight into tinsel heart of the industry he grew up in and manipulated- the huge economic circus that is the Empire of Pop - was he its king.

Michael Jackson Costume Ideas For Halloween

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Do you remember the Thriller video of 1983 that featured the dance of zombies, and that distinctive red Michael Jackson costume? I am sure that as soon as you hear the first few chords from the song and your mind goes straight back to that distinctive video. Are you remembering the zombies?

Do you want to look like that this Halloween?

Thriller is seen as one of the most influential videos of all time and has established MJ as the undisputed "king of pop."

This Halloween you can pay remembrance to him with your very own Michael Jackson Thriller costume. They are available for both adults and children alike for you this Halloween and for any special occasion.

That gangster outfit that he wore for the song "Billy Jean is also a popular icon that fans love, along with the red jacket and black pant outfit.

What made Thriller so special was the elaborate zombie dance which appears in the video and then again it is reprised at the end. There have been a lot of imitations but no one can come close to the original. Even today it when I watch it, it is still as fresh as it was in 1983.

Just as his music has captivated audiences everywhere so has his outfits. The single glove, that red jacket and the contrasting socks that are worn with the short pants are instantly recognised as Michael Jackson.

Have everyone in awe this Halloween with your very own MJ costume.

Michael Jackson Costumes - A Tribute To The King Of Pop This Halloween Season

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Michael Jackson has created a huge impact on the music industry way back then. His killer dance moves were the ones that made the fans so impressed. Though there were music videos recorded on some websites like YouTube, there's nothing great than to witness Michael performing live on stage. But aside from the undying talent of the king of pop, the fans highly appreciated the outfits Michael has worn in his music videos. And now that Halloween is nearly approaching, they're about to pay tribute to their idol usually by wearing Michael Jackson costumes. If you are one of them, you are probably thinking of the same thing. If that is the case, here are some costume ideas that might give you a chance in winning the big hit this Halloween season.

When it comes to costumes, Michael was a perfectionist as he crafted his own designs and styles of clothing. And take note, these costumes are not just simple because most of them have expensive tastes. This Halloween season, there is a wide selection of Michael Jackson outfits that both kids and adults will surely love.

If you don't want to remove the scary effect in your outfit, then "The Thriller" costume is definitely the best option. The thriller is one of the popular music videos the king of pop has created. However it appeared like a movie rather than a music video. If you're playing Plants versus Zombies on your Facebook account, you are probably familiar with this costume. There is a stage there that features dancing Michael wearing red jacket and black leather shoes. But in order to make the outfit more cool and realistic, you can apply pasty green or yellow face paint. You can also add some stuff that will definitely signify the look you want to portray this Halloween. These include white gloves and chain necklace.

In the music video, there were also zombies that transformed to werewolves. If you are planning to attend the party together with your friends and relatives, The Thriller costume would be a great idea. The video also featured Michael dating with a woman. This would be great costumes for couples. The costume for woman was simple - denim jeans plus orange jacket. How could you imagine the reaction of the crowd when you and your wife march to the venue? Trying something different like Thriller costume will definitely bring hundreds of head turns.

The music video "Bad" could also be a great inspiration in choosing your Halloween outfit. This 2010, there are readily available costumes that can be found on local stores as well as online. The costume is quite rugged as it features military pants and black V-neck shirt. You can also personalize the look by choosing other colors such as blue or purple. But of course the outfit will not be complete without the pair of aviator sunglasses.

Michael would not be Michael without the killer moonwalks. If you are planning to wear Michael costume then, it is also better if you practice the moves. Show your talent to the crowd. And who knows? You may receive a cash prize for doing such thing.

Michael Jackson costumes are no doubt one of the great picks this 2010. A few weeks from now, Halloween will be celebrated once again and the costumes might get sold out soon. So in order to avoid the rush, you should shop now even if it's early. But in case you have no time to go to the shopping mall, internet is also a great way to get access to Michael costumes. Happy Halloween!

The King of Pop, Michael Jackson - What Killed Him?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The world stands in amazement at the shocking death of Michael Jackson, king of pop. I stand amazed that the world didn't see this one coming. There were signs pointing in Michael's direction like red flashing lights flickering to warn drivers of a crash up ahead on the road. What frightens me even more are the fans that were so disturbed about Michael's death they have committed suicide. What? How do you spell dysfunction?

I could rant on and on but I will now get to the question that seems to be the banner of TV and print everywhere. What caused the demise of such a creative man? Several things. Life got mixed up. Did you ever wake up and wonder "how did I get here?" We start off as energetic kids full of enthusiasm for butterflies, dancing in the rain, and riding our bikes feeling the breeze on our faces. Then somewhere, that magic is gone. We look in the mirror and wonder who is that man? And even though I too believe that we call every situation into our experience - it still hurts. Being in this body we carry with us also prohibits our sight of the truth. It is a shadow of who we are and what we know on a soul level. So, here is my take on why Peter Pan got stuck and never grew up:

1. He grew up in a dysfunctional family: An abusive Father, perhaps an enabling Mother, and a lot of kids to raise.

2. He never had an opportunity to go through all of those developmental milestones that folks like Piaget and the others taught us in psychology 101 classes all over the world. In other words, childhood is the place we practice skills and gain freedoms slowly to prepare for adulthood.

3. His immense fame and income created a bubble that did not and could not encourage the mental health of any individual.

4. He made a huge jump for poverty to wealth that is often difficult to adjust to with self imposed limits.

5. He was considered the 'golden' child, the 'money' machine and so, at times, his monetary value overshadowed his personal well being.

What killed Michael Jackson? Life, with all of it freedoms whirled out of control until there, for Michael, seemed no way out except by the ultimate escape-DEATH. Some spiritualists say every death is truly a decision on some very deep level to leave physical form. We hate to even think that all deaths are suicide-but if we have free will and are the masters of our reality, it makes perfect sense. Their job is done, their lesson learned, or perhaps it would be better acquired at some other incarnation. I believe Michael got tired. I believe there are no mistakes in the universe. God is never late, he is always on time. Good bye Peter Pan. I will find you some where between sleep and morning-Tinker Bell. Let us remember, learn, and fly with greater compassion and wisdom.

Become a Great Songwriter - Michael Jackson Can Really Help

Image : http://www.flickr.com

If you're someone who dreams of becoming a great songwriter let me offer you this bit of advice; set aside a few hours out of your day to study any one of Michael Jackson's hit songs. I am convinced that clearly he was -- and is -- one of the world's greatest songwriters.

I'm an 80's baby, baby, so I grew up during the king of pop's heyday and I was shocked -- like probably you were -- when I heard the news about Michael Jackson's death. And like most people, I started downloading a ton of music. I felt I needed to honor my man for a little while; honor what MJ gave to music and to the world. Eventually I found myself reminiscing events in my life as my mp3 player cycled through classics like "remember the time", and "will you be there"...man, those were great times!

And it wasn't so much a thing where I was a hyperventilating concert fan in the past -- or where I'd have a walkman (yeah...remember those?) or CD player packed full with his music in continuous rotation -- but maybe I'd be in the car with my dad as he drove his boys to the park to toss around the football, and Michael Jackson's latest hit would echo in the background on the radio.

I've never been to any of his concerts nor bought any of his music (until a few weeks ago), but Michael Jackson's music was always on the playlist to the soundtrack of my life for the better part of 2 decades. Everyone I knew knew who Michael Jackson was well before his "wacko" era...and that saying a lot about his talent as a songwriter, musician and entertainer!

For A While I Was Thinking About Starting a Series of Songwriter Articles

...But I didn't know how I should start it until late June (2009). Then it hit me: "I should talk about today's songs; pick apart crappy songs and applaud great songs". I thought, "Maybe it could help unleash a brand new batch of professional songwriters onto the world...or at least inspire further study on the subject of songwriting". And then -- as if on cue -- in a tragic turn of events Mike Jay passes and people flood stores trying to buy and download all his albums and music.

I felt this was my chance to help you start your transformation into becoming a great songwriter -- sort of like "passing the torch" on behalf of MJ -- while also paying small homage to the dude as one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

So within my first 100 or so articles, I'm going to focus on why Michael Jackson was a songwriting force. And at the same time I'll start several smaller articles to pick apart many of his most popular songs and explain why there're as great as they are. Eventually I'm going to expand my songwriter articles into studying many of today's popular songwriters and songs, but I feel it's fitting if I begin with one of the best.

Now it takes more than writing great lyrics to make a great song.

It takes mastering all parts of the songwriting process, and then you must make sure your song connects people to one another. Mike's greatest gift was his ability to connect with people (because he wasn't always the principle songwriter for his songs). He hired legendary songwriters like Paul McCartney (of the Beatles), Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson writing songs for him (which isn't bad if you ask me), but eventually he wanted to express his own creativity...much like I assume you want to.

When he took over the job of songwriter, his career hit the stratosphere! It was a "thrill[er]", to say the least. Michael Jackson made sure he understood all parts of the songwriting process. I read that he would work on a song over and over until it was perfect. Thirteen (13) #1 songs and 750 Million record sales later, I think it's safe to assume that he had discovered the winning songwriting formula.

I feel there are 3 key stages to become a successful songwriter:

* You must feel comfortable & confident as a songwriter, not nervous or embarrassed.
* You must apply the basics in your songwriting, not just study them.
* You must not quit; finish a song (no matter how terrible), and start another song to get better.

No one knows exactly what formula Michael Jackson used in his songwriting -- and every songwriter eventually discovers his and her own songwriting style -- but I've provided a basic order to develop your song from idea to composition. Come to think of it, Michael Jackson was probably so gifted and intuitive that he didn't need steps to follow, so these steps are for those of us who aren't as special, who need a little direction:

1. Convey a target Songwriter Emotion

-- Songwriting is about connecting people to one another through emotion.

2. Set the best Songwriting Tempo

-- The speed of your song affects the amount of energy it has to convey emotion.

3. Understand the Dynamic of your song

-- Your song has a specific beat and rhythm used to guide your lyrics.

4. Create your songwriting sections

-- From Intro to Chorus, you need to understand your next song's layout.

5. Balance your Prominence

-- Are your lyrics or music more important in your next song.

6. Create your Rhythm & Melody

-- Create your core lyrical delivery & and core music (note) pattern.

7. Build your Rhythmic & Melodic themes

-- Your themes are developed from your cores for each section.

Much of Michael Jackson's life was very strange -- what else would you expect from a society that's turns people into objects of our entertainment -- but many of his songs were and still are brilliant (to say the least) because Jackson followed a similar songwriting process. And even though we live in a decade of rock and rap -- where we're "too cool" to associate ourselves with someone like a Michael Jackson until his tragic death -- no one can deny his great music or the strength of his songwriting ability.

Study his music, lyrics and songwriting style if you want to get the best head start at becoming a great songwriter.

70's Fancy Dress Costumes and 70s Fashion

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The 70's was the decade of Disco. Major influences of the time originated in the 60's when hippies were still the vogue and very present in modern culture. Bell bottoms were very popular and for the first time you could decorate your own to suit. As well, we had the technique of using bleach and tie dye for extra fashion.

An eclectic of design had come to be where you could be wearing ripped and faded denims one day and hot pants with long knee high socks, the next.

As we came into the 70's clothing, men's fashion were also changing. Now tight shorts with loud prints and huge collars, were worn. Ethnic influences were hinted at by the wearing of bright scarves and large chunky jewelry.

John Travolta arrived in Saturday Night Fever, accompanied by the brightest colors you could wear. Remember the flared pants and bell bottoms? Psychedelia had influenced fashion with several multicolor prints, heavily influenced by Woodstock, from the previous decade. However such tight fitting clothes were uncomfortable to wear and that scene soon ended.

Politically we has the feminist movement coinciding with the Vietnam war, further compounded by the Watergate scandal.

That great sports brand of today,Nike, started business in 1972 focusing on running and sportswear. As time moved on, fashion adopted training and running shoes. In the music industry, celebrities started wearing slinky shirts and womens' make up. This the era of Boy George and David Bowie, and their influence was strong.

On the female front, Farah Fawcett's success in Charlies Angels helped create the market for the flicked end hairstyle. Afro perms were also part of the scene as worn by the young Michael Jackson of the Jackson five.

The craze for sun tans started in the 70's with women using fake tan sprays and starting to visit tanning parlors. Perhaps the incentive was that foundation was not needed when you managed to develop a tan.

Completing the look were the shimmering eye makeup and frosted lipstick. So now as we look back, we have many rich sources to draw on when we recreate the era.

Welcome to the 80s

Image : http://www.flickr.com

It's hammer time! But more importantly its fancy dress time. The iconic 80s saw our greatest musical talents such as Michael Jackson take over our radios and is a great 80s theme to have if you having a fancy dress party or attending one. How to Sing Falsetto

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There is a likelihood that you already contain a "super head voice" within you, a natural ability that knows how to sing falsetto. It may need practice in order to come out properly from the bottom of your diaphragm through your vocal chords, but it's likely there.

It is a fact that most women are born with the ability to sing falsetto and simply honing those skills can bring great rewards and a wonderful singing voice with good vocal range.

A "head voice" is essentially where the higher range of notes come from. It is more of a feeling than anything which can be ascribed to a physical thing, and that's exactly where the name comes from. When reaching for higher notes, there is a sensation of resonance moving from your chest, where your normal singing range will come from, up to the head.

These two separate sources are known as the "chest voice" and the "head voice". Knowing how to sing falsetto is often a case of being able to seamlessly blend these two voices together, allowing you to move through ranges to effortlessly hit those higher notes without any straining.

Practice will promote the ability to sing falsetto, as it will with any technique. The higher falsetto voice is one that is often admired but seen as being unobtainable to the layman. This isn't true, as with the right exercises and training almost anyone can sing falsetto.

The fundamentals of knowing how to sing properly will need to there in the first place, as things like your natural vocal range and proper breathing techniques will be the building blocks of your singing empire. Once the basics are in place, you can then move on to embellish and explore new ways to extend your singing skills. Being able to sing falsetto will simply be one of those rewarding and attractive additional new talents to hone.

Sex Offenders-Pedophilia or Ephebophilia-The Truth

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The media reported the Michael Jackson case incessantly for the duration of his trial. What was tragically lacking are the facts regarding pedophiles/ephebophiles and sexual child abuse.

Studies reveal 62% of girls and 31% of boys will be sexually abused by age 18--considered low based on health services.

--80% are sexually abused by a family member

--19% are abused by someone the child knows and trusts

--1% according to government statistics are abused by strangers

The unbelievable truth: Pedophiles/Ephebophiles conduct themselves as average and ordinary to the world. He or she may be a leader in the church; the community; or business. Pedophiles/ephebophiles seldom fit a classic stereotype--education, socioeconomic status, career or culture.

Furthermore, sexual abuse/incest is more difficult to believe or accept when the person we like, admire, love, and/or marry is the perpetrator. This is precisely why Jackson's family, fans and the uninformed can unequivocally believe he could not possibly be an Ephebophile--sexual attraction to adolescents.

Pedophiles/Ephebophiles are cunning predators with a honed mode of operation. They are experts at manipulation, thus escaping adult reality. They feel entitled, justifying their actions as loving; not harming the child. They expend considerable energy maintaining this illusion to themselves and others. They create a persona of goodness beyond reproach. They go to great lengths to present themselves as exemplary people, who love children. Jackson's defense attorney, Mesereau, invoked this convoluted tactic in response to the judge's ruling that previous accounts of sexual abuse claims, which were settled, was admissible. Mesereau countered, "He [Jackson] also has spent millions on children with AIDS. We can drown them with examples of where Mr. Jackson has been so benevolent, so generous, so charitable, so giving for good causes, that it will make their theory look silly."

Mesereau's statement exemplifies, anyone who sees through the perpetrator's façade is met with admonishment and rebuke for being critical, irrational, racist, out-to-get the person, and/or jealous. The perpetrator is the family emperor with no clothes. "I know my son, and this is ridiculous," Jackson's mother, Katherine Jackson, said in an interview on CBS "The Early Show." She said people who believe Michael is guilty "don't know him." Jackson's father, said his son was beloved around the world but had trouble in the United States because of racism. He said the accuser's motives were clear: "It's about money."

Even more frightening Pedophiles/Ephebophiles do not hold beliefs reflecting society's moral and ethical values. Therefore, coupled with the child's innocence and trust of the abuser usually pressure or violence is seldom required. Thus, the perpetrator can unequivocally state, "I love children. Never-ever. I could never harm a child or anyone. It's not in my heart. It's not who I am." --Michael Jackson, 1993.

There is another insidious aspect to Jackson's contact with adolescents--he flaunts the relationship as 'sweet and innocent' admonishing anyone for believing it is sexual. Using the definition of sexual abuse, Jackson's befriending adolescent boys under the guise of helping them with a life threatening illness and/or sleeping with them, albeit, he slept on the floor and the child slept in his bed, is in and of itself sexual abuse.

"Incest is both sexual abuse and an abuse of power. It is violence that does not require force. Another is using the victim, treating them in a way that they do not want or in a way that is not appropriate by a person with whom a different relationship is required. It is abuse because it does not take into consideration the needs or wishes of the child; rather, it meets the needs of the other person at the child's expense. If the experience has sexual meaning for another person, in lieu of a nurturing purpose for the benefit of the child, it is abuse. If it is unwanted or inappropriate for her age or the relationship, it is abuse. Incest [sexual abuse] can occur through words, sounds, or even exposure of the child to sights or acts that are sexual but do not involve her. If she is forced to see what she does not want to see, for instance, by an exhibitionist, it is abuse. If a child is forced into an experience that is sexual in content or overtone that is abuse.

As long as the child is induced into sexual activity with someone who is in a position of greater power, whether that power is derived through the perpetrator's age, size, status, or relationship, the act is abusive. A child who cannot refuse, or who believes she or he cannot refuse, is a child who has been violated." (E. Sue Blume, Secret Survivors).

HISTORY
Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 - June 25, 2009), often dubbed the "king of pop," was an American recording artist, widely regarded as one of the greatest entertainers of modern times. With his trademark black fedora and single, sequined glove, his unique contributions to music and dance, along with a highly publicized personal life, made him a central part of popular culture around the world for four decades.

One of the few artists have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, his achievements included multiple Guinness World Records-including the "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time"-13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles, sale of over 750 million records. He was also a notable philanthropist, donating millions of dollars to the 39 charities he supported, and raising more through his own Heal the World Foundation.

The seventh child of the Jackson family, he made his debut in 1968 as a member of The Jackson 5, beginning a solo career in 1971. His 1982 album Thriller remains the best-selling album of all time, with four others-Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and History (1995)-among the best selling. He popularized several physically complicated dance moves, such as the robot and the moonwalk, now iconic. He is widely credited with having transformed the music video from a promotional tool into an art form, with videos such as Thriller, "Beat It" and "Billie Jean" making him the first African American to amass a strong crossover following on MTV, and others, such as "Black or White" and "Scream", ensuring his popularity well into the 1990s.

Jackson's personal life generated significant controversy. His changing appearance was noticed from the early 1980s, his skin appearing paler and his facial features becoming almost androgynous. He was accused in 1993 of child sexual abuse, and though no charges were brought, his health suffered when he started using painkillers to cope with the stress. He married twice, first in 1994 and again in 1996, and brought up three children, one of them with a surrogate mother, actions that triggered more speculation about his life. In 2005, he was tried and acquitted of different child molestation allegations, which provoked a further decline in his health. Jackson died at the age of 50 on June 25, 2009, in Los Angeles, after suffering a cardiac arrest. His memorial service was broadcast live around the world, watched by up to one billion people.

Early life and The Jackson 5: 1958-75

Jackson was born the seventh of nine children on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana, an industrial suburb of Chicago, to an African American family. His mother, Katherine Esther Scruse, was a devout Jehovah's Witness, and his father, Joseph Walter "Joe" Jackson, a steel mill worker who performed with an R&B band called The Falcons. Jackson had three sisters, Rebbie, La Toya, and Janet, and five brothers, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Randy
Jackson had a difficult relationship with his father. He said that he was physically and emotionally abused during incessant rehearsals, whippings, and name-calling, though he credited his father's discipline for his success In one altercation recalled by Marlon, Joseph held Michael upside down by one leg and "pummeled him over and over again with his hand, hitting him on his back and buttocks". Joseph would also trip or push the boys into walls. One night while Michael Jackson was asleep, Joseph climbed into his room through the bedroom window, wearing a fright mask and screaming. He said he wanted to teach the children not to leave the window open when they went to sleep. For years afterward, Jackson said he suffered nightmares about being kidnapped from his room Joseph acknowledged in 2003 that he had whipped Jackson as a child.

Jackson first spoke openly about his childhood abuse in an interview with Oprah Winfrey broadcast on February 10, 1993. He said that he had often cried from loneliness and would sometimes throw up when he saw his father. In an interview with Martin Bashir, aired on February 3, 2003, as Living with Michael Jackson, he covered his face with his hands and began crying when talking about his childhood abuse. He recalled that Joseph sat in a chair with a belt in his hand as he and his siblings rehearsed, and that "if you didn't do it the right way, he would tear you up, really get you
He showed talent early in his life, performing in front of classmates during a Christmas recital at the age of five. In 1964, he and Marlon joined the Jackson Brothers-a band formed by brothers Jackie, Tito, and Jermaine-as backup musicians playing congas and the tambourine. Jackson later began performing backup vocals and dancing; at the age of eight, he and Jermaine assumed lead vocals, and the group's name was changed to The Jackson The band toured the Midwest extensively from 1966 to 1968, frequently performing at a string of black clubs known as the "chitlin' circuit", where they often opened stripteases and other adult acts. In 1966, they won a major local talent show with renditions of Motown hits and James Brown's "I Got You (I Feel Good)", led by Michael.

The Jackson 5 recorded several songs, including "Big Boy", for the local record label Steeltown in 1967, and signed with Motown Records in 1968.[3] Rolling Stone magazine later described the young Michael as "a prodigy" with "overwhelming musical gifts", writing that he "quickly emerged as the main draw and lead singer The group set a chart record when its first four singles ("I Want You Back", "ABC", "The Love You Save," and "I'll Be There") peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. During The Jackson 5's early years, Motown's public relations team claimed that Jackson was nine years old, two years younger than he actually was, to make him appear "cuter" and more accessible to the general public

Starting in 1972, Jackson released a total of four solo studio albums with Motown, among them Got to Be There and Ben, released as part of the Jackson 5 franchise, and producing successful singles such as "Got to Be There", "Ben", and a remake of Bobby Day's "Rockin' Robin". The group's sales began declining in 1973, and the band members chafed under Motown's strict refusal to allow them creative control or input. Although they scored several top 40 hits, including the top 5 disco single "Dancing Machine" and the top 20 hit "I Am Love", the Jackson 5 left Motown in 1975

1975-81: Move to Epic and Off the Wall

The Jackson 5 signed a new contract with CBS Records in June 1975, joining the Philadelphia International Records division, later Epic Records, and renaming themselves The Jacksons. They continued to tour internationally, releasing six more albums between 1976 and 1984, during which Jackson was the lead songwriter, writing hits such as "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)", "This Place Hotel," and "Can You Feel It".

In 1978, he starred as the scarecrow in the musical, The Wiz, and it was here that he teamed up with Quincy Jones, who was arranging the film's musical score. Jones agreed to produce Jackson's next solo album, Off the Wall. In 1979, Jackson broke his nose during a complex dance routine. His subsequent rhinoplasty was not a complete success; he complained of breathing difficulties that would affect his career. He was referred to Dr. Steven Hoefflin, who performed Jackson's second rhinoplasty and subsequent operationsJones and Jackson produced Off the Wall together. Songwriters included Jackson, Heatwave's Rod Temperton, Stevie Wonder, and Paul McCartney. Released in 1979, it was the first album to generate four U.S. top 10 hits, including the chart-topping singles "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" and "Rock with You It reached number three on the Billboard 200 and eventually sold over 20 million copies worldwide In 1980, Jackson won three awards at the American Music Awards for his solo efforts: Favorite Soul/R&B Album, Favorite Male Soul/R&B Artist, and Favorite Soul/R&B Single for "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough". That year, he also won Billboard Music Awards for Top Black Artist and Top Black Album and a Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, also for "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough". Despite its commercial success, Jackson felt Off the Wall should have made a much bigger impact, and was determined to exceed expectations with his next release. In 1980, he secured the highest royalty rate in the music industry: 37 percent of wholesale album profit

1982-83: Thriller and the moonwalk

In 1982, Jackson contributed the song "Someone In the Dark" to the storybook for the film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial; the record won a Grammy for Best Album for Children. That year Jackson issued his second Epic album, Thriller. The album remained in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 for 80 consecutive weeks and 37 of those weeks at peak position. It was the first album to have seven Billboard Hot 100 top 10 singles, including "Billie Jean", "Beat It," and "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'." Thriller was certified for 28 million shipments by the RIAA, giving it Double Diamond status in the United States. It is cited as the best-selling album of all time, worldwide sales between 47 million and 109 million copies.

Jackson's attorney John Branca noted that Jackson had the highest royalty rate in the music industry at that point: approximately $2 for every album sold. He was also making record-breaking profits from sales of CDs and The Making of Michael Jackson's Thriller, a documentary produced by Jackson and John Landis. Funded by MTV, the documentary sold over 350,000 copies in a few months. The era saw the arrival of novelties like dolls modeled after Michael Jackson, which appeared in stores in May 1984 at a price of $12.Biographer J. Randy Taraborrelli writes that, "Thriller stopped selling like a leisure item-like a magazine, a toy, tickets to a hit movie-and started selling like a household staple."

Jackson debuts the moonwalk during his performance on Motown 25

Jackson's influence at that point as "Star of records, radio, rock video. A one-man rescue team for the music business. A songwriter who sets the beat for a decade. A dancer with the fanciest feet on the street. A singer who cuts across all boundaries of taste and style and color too". "in the world of pop music, there is Michael Jackson and there is everybody else". On March 25, 1983, he performed live on the Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever television special, both with The Jackson 5 and on his own singing "Billie Jean". Debuting his signature dance move, the moonwalk, his performances during the event were seen by 47 million viewers, and drew comparisons to Elvis Presley's and the The Beatles' appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show. "The moonwalk that he made famous is an apt metaphor for his dance style. How does he do it? As a technician, he is a great illusionist, a genuine mime. His ability to keep one leg straight as he glides while the other bends and seems to walk requires perfect timing

1984-85: Scalp burns and the Beatles catalog

Jackson suffered a setback on January 27, 1984, which was to have repercussions for the rest of his life. While filming a Pepsi Cola commercial at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, he suffered second degree burns to his scalp after pyrotechnics accidentally set his hair on fire. Happening in front of a full house of fans during a simulated concert, the incident elicited an outpouring of sympathy. Jackson had his third rhinoplasty shortly afterwards, and began treatment to hide the scars on his scalp. It was during this period, friends say, that he began using the painkillers to which he later became addicted. Pepsi settled out of court, and Jackson donated his $1.5 million settlement to the Brotman Medical Center in Culver City, CA, which now has a "Michael Jackson Burn Center".

Jackson at the White House South Portico with President Ronald Reagan and first lady Nancy Reagan, 1984

On May 14, 1984, he was invited to the White House to receive an award from President Ronald Reagan for his support of charities that helped people overcome alcohol and drug abuse. Jackson won eight awards during the Grammys that year. Unlike later albums, Thriller did not have an official tour to promote it, but the 1984 Victory Tour, headlined by The Jacksons, showcased much of Jackson's new solo material to more than two million Americans. He donated his $5 million share from the Victory Tour to charity. He also co-wrote the charity single "We Are the World" in 1985 with Lionel Richie, which was released worldwide to aid the poor in the U.S. and Africa. It became one of the best-selling singles of all time, with nearly 20 million copies sold and millions of dollars donated to famine relief.

While working with Paul McCartney on the two hit singles "The Girl Is Mine" (1982) and "Say Say Say" (1983), the pair became friendly. McCartney told Jackson about the large amount of money he earned from owning music catalogs; he was earning approximately $40 million a year from other people's songs. Jackson subsequently began buying, selling, and distributing publishing rights to music from numerous artists. In 1985, ATV Music, a music publishing company owning thousands of music copyrights, including the Northern Songs catalog that contained the majority of the Lennon-McCartney compositions recorded by the Beatles, was put up for sale. Jackson took an immediate interest in the catalog, but was warned he would face strong competition. Excited, he skipped around saying, "I don't care. I want those songs. Get me those songs Branca [his attorney]". Branca contacted McCartney's attorney, who clarified that his client was not interested in bidding: "It's too pricey". After Jackson had started negotiations, McCartney changed his mind and tried to persuade Yoko Ono to join him in a joint bid, but she declined, so he pulled out. Jackson eventually beat the rest of the competition in negotiations that lasted 10 months, purchasing the catalog for $47.5 million.

1986-87: Appearance, tabloids, Bad, autobiography, and films
Michael Jackson's health and appearance

Jackson's skin had been a medium-brown color for the entire duration of his youth, but starting in the early 1980s, it gradually grew paler. The change gained widespread media coverage, including rumors that he was bleaching his skin. In 1986, he was diagnosed with vitiligo and lupus; the vitiligo partially lightened his skin, and the lupus was in remission; both illnesses made him sensitive to sunlight. The treatments he used for his condition further lightened his skin tone, and, with the application of pancake makeup to even out blotches, he could appear very pale. The structure of his face changed too: several surgeons speculated that he had undergone multiple nasal surgeries, a forehead lift, thinned lips, and cheekbone surgery.

He lost weight in the early 1980s because of a change in diet and a desire for "a dancer's body." Witnesses reported that he was often dizzy and speculated that he was suffering from anorexia nervosa; periods of weight loss would become a recurring problem later in life. Some medical professionals have said he was suffering from body dysmorphic disorder, a psychological condition whereby the sufferer dislikes his appearance and has no concept of how he is viewed by others. He had a fourth rhinoplasty in 1986, and had a cleft put in his chin.

Jackson two years after he was diagnosed with vitiligo, here in the early stages of the disease

He became the subject of increasingly sensational reports. In 1986, The National Enquirer published a series of photographs of him lying in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, claiming that he slept in the chamber to slow the aging process. When Jackson bought a chimpanzee called Bubbles from a laboratory, it was reported as an example of increasing detachment from reality. In 2003, the singer claimed that Bubbles had been trained to use the toilet and to clean his own bedroom. Later, it was reported that he had offered $1 million for the bones of Joseph Merrick, the "Elephant Man." The reports became embedded in the public consciousness, inspiring the nickname "Wacko Jacko." Despite Jackson's insistence that the reports were completely invented, a biographer said in 2004 that Jackson's publicists had leaked the rumors to the press for promotional reasons. Jackson remarked to a reporter:
Why not just tell people I'm an alien from Mars. Tell them I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight. They'll believe anything you say, because you're a reporter. But if I, Michael Jackson, were to say, "I'm an alien from Mars and I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight," people would say, "Oh, man, that Michael Jackson is nuts. He's cracked up. You can't believe a damn word that comes out of his mouth."

Jackson wore a gold-plated military style jacket with belt in the Bad era.

Jackson starred in the Francis Ford Coppola-directed 3-D film Captain EO. It was the most expensive film produced on a per-minute basis at the time, and was later hosted in Disney theme parks. Disneyland featured the film in its Tomorrowland area for nearly 11 years, while Walt Disney World screened the film in its Epcot theme park from 1986 to 1994. With the industry expecting another major hit, Jackson's first album in five years, Bad (1987), was highly anticipated. It had lower sales than Thriller, but was still a substantial commercial success, spawning seven hit singles in the U.S., five of which ("I Just Can't Stop Loving You", "Bad", "The Way You Make Me Feel", "Man in the Mirror" and "Dirty Diana") reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, more than any other album. As of 2008, the album had sold 30 million copies worldwide.

In 1987, Jackson disassociated himself from the Jehovah's Witnesses, in response to their disapproval of the Thriller video. The Bad World Tour began on September 12 that year, finishing on January 14, 1989. In Japan alone, the tour had 14 sellouts and drew 570,000 people, nearly tripling the previous record of 200,000 in a single tour. He broke a Guinness World Record when 504,000 people attended seven sold-out shows at Wembley Stadium. He performed a total of 123 concerts to an audience of 4.4 million people, and gained a further Guinness World Record when the tour grossed him $125 million. During the trip he invited underprivileged children to watch for free, and gave donations to hospitals, orphanages, and other charities.

1988-90: Autobiography, changing appearance, and Neverland

In 1988, Jackson released his first autobiography, Moon Walk, which took four years to complete and sold 200,000 copies. Jackson wrote about his childhood, The Jackson 5, and the abuse he had suffered. He also spoke of his plastic surgery, saying he had had two rhinoplastic surgeries and the surgical creation of a cleft in his chin. He attributed much of the change in the structure of his face to puberty, weight loss, a strict vegetarian diet, a change in hair style, and stage lighting. Moon Walk reached the top position on The New York Times best sellers' list. The musician then released a film called Moonwalker, which featured live footage and music videos that starred Jackson and Joe Pesci. Moonwalker debuted atop the Billboard Top Music Video Cassette chart, staying there for 22 weeks. It was eventually knocked off the top spot by Michael Jackson: The Legend Continues.

In March 1988, Jackson purchased land near Santa Ynez, California to build Neverland Ranch at a cost of $17 million. He installed Ferris wheels, a menagerie, and a movie theater on the 2,700-acre (11 km2) property. A security staff of 40 patrolled the grounds. In 2003, it was valued at approximately $100 million. In 1989, his annual earnings from album sales, endorsements, and concerts was estimated at $125 million for that year alone. Shortly afterwards, he became the first Westerner to appear in a television ad in the Soviet Union.

His success resulted in his being dubbed the "king of pop", a nickname conceived by Elizabeth Taylor when she presented him with an "Artist of the Decade" award in 1989, proclaiming him "the true king of pop, rock and soul." President George H. W. Bush presented him with The White House's special "Artist of the Decade." From 1985 to 1990, he donated $500,000 to the United Negro College Fund, and all of the profits from his single "Man in the Mirror" went to charity. Jackson's live rendition of "You Were There" at Sammy Davis Jr.'s 60th birthday celebration received an Emmy nomination.

Dangerous and Super Bowl XXVII: 1991-93

In March 1991, Jackson renewed his contract with Sony for $65 million, a record-breaking deal at the time, displacing Neil Diamond's renewal contract with Columbia Records. Jackson released his eighth album Dangerous in 1991. As of 2008, Dangerous had shipped seven million copies in the U.S. and had sold 32 million copies worldwide; it is the most successful new jack swing album of all time. In the United States, the album's first single "Black or White" was its biggest hit, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and remaining there for seven weeks, with similar chart performances worldwide. The album's second single "Remember the Time" spent eight weeks in the top five in the United States, peaking at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. In 1993, Jackson performed the song at the Soul Train Awards in a chair, saying he had suffered an injury in rehearsals. In the UK and other parts of Europe, "Heal the World" was the biggest hit from the album; it sold 450,000 copies in the UK and spent five weeks at number two in 1992.

Jackson founded the "Heal the World Foundation" in 1992. The charity organization brought underprivileged children to Jackson's ranch to enjoy theme park rides that Jackson had built on the property. The foundation also sent millions of dollars around the globe to help children threatened by war and disease. The Dangerous World Tour began on June 27, 1992, and finished on November 11, 1993. Jackson performed to 3.5 million people in 67 concerts. All profits from the concerts went to the "Heal the World Foundation", raising millions of dollars in relief. He sold the broadcast rights to his Dangerous world tour to HBO for $20 million, a record-breaking deal that still stands. Following the illness and death of Ryan White, Jackson helped draw public attention to HIV/AIDS, something that was still controversial at the time. He publicly pleaded with the Clinton Administration at Bill Clinton's Inaugural Gala to give more money to HIV/AIDS charities and research.

In a high-profile visit to Africa, Jackson visited several countries, among them Gabon and Egypt. His first stop to Gabon was greeted with a sizable reception of more than 100,000 people in "spiritual bedlam", some of them carrying signs that read, "Welcome Home Michael". In his trip to the Ivory Coast, Jackson was crowned "King Sani" by a tribal chief. He then thanked the dignitaries in French and English, signed official documents formalizing his kingship and sat on a golden throne while presiding over ceremonial dances.

One of Jackson's most acclaimed performances came during the halftime show at Super Bowl XXVII. As the performances began, Jackson was catapulted up from beneath the stage as fireworks went off behind him. After landing on the canvas, he maintained a statuesque stance dressed in a gold and black military outfit and sunglasses; he remained in the stance for over a minute while the crowd cheered. He then slowly removed his sunglasses, threw them away and began to sing and dance. His routine included four songs: "Jam", "Billie Jean", "Black or White" and "Heal the World". It was the first Super Bowl where the audience figures increased during the half-time show, and was viewed by 135 million Americans alone; Jackson's Dangerous album rose 90 places up the album chart.
Jackson was given the "Living Legend Award" at the 35th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. "Black or White" was Grammy nominated for best vocal performance. "Jam" gained two nominations: Best R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song

First child sexual abuse allegation: 1993

Jackson gave a 90-minute interview to Oprah Winfrey in February 1993, his second television interview since 1979. He grimaced when speaking of his childhood abuse at the hands of his father; he believed he had missed out on much of his childhood years, admitting that he often cried from loneliness. He denied tabloid rumors that he had bought the bones of the Elephant Man, slept in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, or bleached his skin, stating for the first time that he had vitiligo. The interview was watched by an American audience of 90 million, becoming the fourth most-viewed non-sport program in U.S. history. It also increased awareness of vitiligo, a relatively unknown condition. Dangerous re-entered the album chart in the top 10, more than a year after its original release 1993 child sexual abuse accusations against Michael Jackson

It also increased awareness of vitiligo, a relatively unknown condition. Dangerous re-entered the album chart in the top 10, more than a year after its original release....

In the summer of 1993, Jackson was accused of child sexual abuse by a 13-year-old boy named Jordan Chandler and his father, Evan Chandler, a dentist A year after Jackson met the boy, under the influence of sodium amytal, a controversial sedative, Jordan told his father that Jackson had touched his penis The father was tape-recorded discussing his intention to pursue charges, where he said, "If I go through with this, I win big-time. There's no way I lose. I will get everything I want and they will be destroyed forever ... Michael's career will be over" He and Jackson engaged in unsuccessful negotiations to reach a financial settlement; the negotiations were initiated by Chandler but Jackson did make several counter offers. Jordan told a psychiatrist and later police that he and Jackson had engaged in acts of kissing, masturbation and oral sex, as well as giving a detailed description of what he alleged were the singer's genitals.

An official investigation began, with Jordan's mother adamant that there was no wrongdoing on Jackson's part. Neverland Ranch was searched; and multiple children and family members denied that Jackson was a pedophile though his image took a further hit when his older sister, La Toya, accused him of being a pedophile, a statement she later retracted Jackson agreed to a 25-minute strip search, conducted by police and doctors at his ranch, required to see if a description provided by Jordan of Jackson's genitals was accurate. Doctors concluded there were strong similarities, but it was not a definitive match. His friends said he never recovered from the humiliation. He described the search in an emotional public statement, and proclaimed his innocence.

He began taking painkillers and sedatives, including Valium, Ativan, and Xanax, in part to ease chronic pain resulting from an accident with stage rigging during the Dangerous Tour, and for joint inflammation associated with the lupus, but also to ease the panic attacks stemming from the allegations against him. By the fall of 1993, he was addicted. His health deteriorated to such an extent that he canceled the remainder of the Dangerous World Tour and went into rehab in London for a few months, dramatically disappearing from public view with the help of Elizabeth Taylor and Elton John. The stress of the allegations also caused him to stop eating, and he lost a significant amount of weight. With his health in decline, his friends and legal advisers took over his defense and finances. They called on him to settle the child-abuse allegations out of court, believing he could not endure a lengthy trial.

The tabloids painted him in an extremely unfavorable light. Complaints about them included bias against Jackson, paying for stories about alleged criminal activity, and buying leaked confidential material from the police investigation. On January 1, 1994, Jackson settled with the Chandlers out of court for $22 million, after which Jordan stopped co-operating regarding criminal proceedings. Jackson was never charged, and the state closed its criminal investigation, citing lack of evidence.

First marriage :1994
May 26th 1994: Jackson married singer-songwriter Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis Presley. They had first met in 1975 during one of Jackson's family engagements at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, and were reconnected through a mutual friend in early 1993. They stayed in contact every day over the telephone. As child molestation accusations became public, Jackson became dependent on Lisa Marie for emotional support; she was concerned about his faltering health and addiction to drugs. Lisa Marie explained, "I believed he didn't do anything wrong and that he was wrongly accused and yes I started falling for him. I wanted to save him. I felt that I could do it." In a phone call he made to her, she described him as high, incoherent and delusional. Shortly afterwards, she tried to persuade Jackson to settle the allegations out of court and go into rehabilitation to recover-he subsequently did both. Jackson proposed to Lisa Marie over the telephone towards the fall of 1993, saying, "If I asked you to marry me, would you do it?". Presley and Jackson married in the Dominican Republic in secrecy; the parties denied they had been married for nearly two months. The marriage was, in her words, "a married couple's life ... that was sexually active". At the time, the tabloid media speculated that the wedding was a ploy to prop up Jackson's public image in light of prior sexual abuse allegations. Jackson and Presley divorced less than two years later.

Michael Jackson - The Man and His Music

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Michael Jackson's death has saddened many of his loyal fans, yet how many people knew what the famous singer was like as a person. I remember growing up with his music in the 1980s and watching him perform his famous moon walk on television. The public cannot say how Michael Jackson's childhood (or lack of it) derived him of a stable adulthood. It appears that the young Michael Jackson was used for his voice as he became the family's lead singer at a young age.

Personally I wasn't a fan of his music, yet it seems sad that a grown man had to create his own fantasy land so he could have the sort of life he was denied as a child. Allegations of pedeophillia were rife during the 1990s, which he was cleared of after great deliberation by the courts. The allegations tarnished his reputation both as a man, and as a singer. Speculation of his guilt is still debated world wide.

To all intents and purposes, he had some success with hits such as Thriller and Bad, which were popular in the United States and internationally, I cannot understand why his music was so successful, yet I acknowledge that it must have been as there were images on signs, and television, of people attending his concerts, as well as, buying his CD's were prominent in the 1980s and early 1990s.

In conclusion whatever people may think of Michael Jackson as a man and a singer, he was arguably deprived of childhood which influenced his behavior in later life.

Joe Jackson - Michael Jackson's Mystery Man

Image : http://www.flickr.com

"He's still a mystery man to me and he may always be one," Michael Jackson said of his father in his 1988 autobiography.

So here we have Joe Jackson, MJ's father who has been in the limelight as well during the height of his son's popularity because of his questionable parenting when Michael was just a child. It was comparable to a rollercoaster ride because throughout the years, Michael's relationship with his father has been one which is very enigmatic.

Again in the 1988 autobiography book edited by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Michael recounts that one of his earliest memories of his father was of him coming home from a hard day's work from a steel mill with a bag of glazed donuts for all the kids. There was also some time at the theme park.

"My brothers and I could really eat back then and that bag would disappear with a snap of the fingers," Jackson recalled. "He used to take us all to the merry-go-round in the park."

However, most of his earlier childhood trauma was the physical torment his dad would sometimes put him through for a wrong dance step or a bumbled musical note. Jackson shared that they would always get a hit with either a switch or a belt whenever they do it wrong during rehearsals.

"My mother told me I would fight back even when I was very little, but I don't remember that," Michael wrote. "I do remember running under tables to get away from him and him getting angrier."

In hindsight, MJ recalled that they were always rehearsing - frantic rehearsals.

Come to think of it though: did this discipline contribute to the immense talents of Michael? It probably did but undeniably it had a psychological effect on Michael.

If anything the violent discipline methods of Joe might have been justified with the rise to fame of the Jackson 5. "I remember singing at the top of my voice and dancing with real joy and working too hard for a child," Michael Jackson wrote. "I wasn't formed to be Michael the lead singer."

To explore the other end of the argument, if Joe would not have been as harsh as he has been, his family would have starved to death and be exposed to the harshness of the world if he had continued relying on his failing job in a mill.

However it did a lot to the psyche of Michael and we don't know if that is enough justification for violently hitting a child as a means to discipline.

In an interview with BBC, Joe Jackson admitted that he did whipped MJ with a switch and a belt. However according to Joe: "I never beat him. You beat someone with a stick."

Joe is now speaking in hindsight since he has attended the funeral of his child instead of the child naturally burying the parents. He believes that his son Michael was not crazy and is actually smart.

MJ once said that he would have nightmares about his father and that he would regurgitate every time he sees Joe.

To this Joe replied: "He regurgitates all the way to the bank. That's right."

Joe has been criticized by some people in the blogosphere for shamelessly promoting his recording label in spite of the death of his son. Somehow it didn't seem right. Joe did say that he and Katherine will take care of his grandchildren with MJ - Prince, Paris and Blanket.

Definitely, Joe Jackson has a huge hand in the development of our king of pop. Somewhere, somehow, MJ's decisions have been influenced by these experiences with his father, for better or for worse.

His music appealed to the masses and his songs were full of life and passion. Let's take a look at Michael Jackson's top 5 songs.

5. Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough. This is a classic song that took place during the 1970s and while it has some kind of a disco feel to it, the pace and the energy are second to none and still sound modern to this day.

4. I Want You Back. Jackson sang this song with the Jackson 5 when his voice was still high, and gave the world a glimpse as to where he was going with things.

3. Man in the Mirror. Coming off of his Bad album in 1987, this is a great, well thought out, introspective song.

What Michael Jackson Can Teach Us About Sleeping Pills

Image : http://www.flickr.com

While official results have not been released to the public, it is widely accepted that Michael Jackson's death was a result of a prescription drug overdose. Heath Ledger was found dead with prescription sleeping pills nearby. May they rest in peace, and hopefully we can all learn something from their untimely deaths.

Are prescription drugs such as sleeping pills really any safer than the illegal substances we know harm our bodies and minds?

Insomnia is a terrible thing, because sleep is so important for our ability to get through our lives. Without the proper rest, our health and ability to concentrate plummet until we can't get through the day anymore. This can lead to employment problems, relationship problems and very real physical problems.

Because of the awful effects insomnia can have, sufferers more and more often turn to medication to help them rest so they can get through their lives. While most people have some awareness about more natural ways to cure their insomnia, they may not feel that they have the time to dedicate to re-establishing their sleep schedule.

Sleeping pills then become the easy, quick solution to their insomnia problem. Our society has trained people to have tremendous faith in the power of a simple pill to fix any number of problems. If you're depressed, take a pill. If you're eating too much, take a pill. If you're in pain, take a pill. It goes on and on, and applies to problems calming down and sleeping too.

Medication can be an essential tool in solving mental and physical health problems, but unfortunately sometimes it becomes the source of a whole new problem to deal with. When used with caution and under supervision, medication can help get symptoms under control enough so that the individual is able to focus on the underlying causes and solve those. However, often medication is used as a solution itself, rather than a temporary aid.

This kind of attitude leads to people becoming dependent on the drugs, unable to break free of using them to get the relief they are after. In the case of insomnia sufferers, sleeping pills used in this way can permanently affect your brain and how your body is able to fall asleep. You body knows how to fall asleep on its own, but when drugs do its job for an extended period of time it becomes dependent on them. Once this happens, it becomes very difficult to ever fall asleep naturally, without the aid of medication.

Over time, the medications also lose effectiveness and insomnia sufferers are met the the original problem once again; they aren't able to sleep. Except this time, they aren't able to sleep naturally [http://beatyourinsomnia.com/] or while taking sleeping pills. Desperate, these individuals sometimes turn to increasingly powerful drugs to get rest.

We've seen the results this can lead to with some public figures, such as those already mentioned. The amount of celebrities and known figures who have died too early of an overdose is very large, and yet people still aren't closely investigating the way medications are administered.

Thanksgiving - What Were the Pilgrims Thankful For?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In boyhood I was satisfied to use my imagination to envision just how the Pilgrims set their feet on the Old Plymouth Rock. It began to take on an aura of the mystical and heroic to me, but I was far from the first person to be caught into these feelings. As far back as 1835, Mr. Alexis DeJocqueville spoke of the rocks ethereal qualities with far more eloquence than I. "This Rock has become an object of veneration in the United States. I have seen bits of it carefully preserved in several towns in the Union. Does this sufficiently show that all human power and greatness is in the soul of man? Here is a stone which the feet of a few outcasts pressed for an instant; and the stone becomes famous; it is treasured by a great nation; its very dust is shared as a relic."

As an adult I was more inclined to use my curiosity to discover why the pilgrims came to land on this rock in the first place. The answer would lead me to discover a people driven, not just to a new land, but to a land that was free of all the tyranny and oppression they had know in their own European countries. The Rock became less mystical to me as an adult while the purpose of the pilgrims became a more venerable matter in my thinking.

It is impossible to ponder those brave Pilgrims, our forefathers, risking life and limb and enduring the perils of the sea, the unknown, starvation and deprivation of every sort without wondering about the very strong reasons they were so willing to face these perils and hardships. Discovering their reasons also provided answers to how the first Thanksgiving came about. The Pilgrims gave thanks because they saw the promise of their quest near at hand and in some small way at the harvest time of that first year it looked like their dream had gotten itself underway.

No one knows the exact words that were spoken in that prayer just before the first thanksgiving meal was eaten. But if the collective thoughts of all who sat for that meal could be known, we can be sure they were about things greater than the personal or family gains and safety that many prayers are reduced to today.

Their thankfulness was for the possibilities of religious freedom, taxation with representation, fair hearings before magistrates when charged with crimes, relief from oppressive monarchs and freedom to speak their minds without fear of reprisal. Many of the things taken for granted and rarely mentioned in the thanksgiving prayers of today are what they were thankful for.

It is said that about ninety Indians were present at the feast which lasted about three days. The very sight of these natives with completely unknown and diverse dress and culture eating with our tattered but dignified forefathers in harmony and full acceptance is a picture of America's original dream, the dream of a place where everyone is welcome and able to work together in a common society. I am sure that they were thankful for that small microcosmic example of the larger dream they all shared for the country's future.

The pilgrims were thankful for the beginning of their dream. We should be thankful for the fullness of that dream. The pilgrims were people who knew all to well that nobility was not inherent to those born in palaces but it was a state of the soul and a dignity of purpose found in people of higher thought. They were thankful on that first thanksgiving for the visible result of that higher thought. Happy Thanksgiving America.
