Michael Jackson Thriller Costume

Michael Jackson

When we're talking about Michael Jackson, the famous king of pop (may he rest in peace), there are many things that are undeniable about his career. His amazing talent spanned across many areas of performance, but most notably were his contributions to musical technique, dance, and style. Each one of these could have novels written about them, so for this article, we're going to focus in our magnifying glass on the king of pop's style, and even more narrowly, the Michael Jackson Thriller Costume.

What we have to remember is that everything about the music video for Thriller was entirely thought out. MJ wore two different costumes, one of which was done up in a couple of different ways. All of the costumes shared a similar color palette -- which is to say, that whatever one we're looking at, the Michael Jackson thriller costume was primarily red.

Why was this? Well, in addition to the fact that Michael looks pretty snazzy in red, there are a couple other major things. First of all, the color red is classic to the horror genre. Since Thriller was a mock recreation of the entire horror genre, this is one of the more major reasons. In addition, though, the Michael Jackson thriller costume being red served the purpose to distinguishing MJ from the rest of the zombies in the music video. With the low lighting, minor fog effects, and the amount of make-up that they put on him, the red costume allowed him to be seen throughout the video.

Another significant thing about the costume is the exact way it's styled. Some may think that these things are just for style, and were choices from a completely fashion point of view. Though this had a major contributing factor, it's not the only thing. You'll notice in the video that for the Michael Jackson thriller costume that's used to dance in, Michael's pants are tight yet flexible, and his jacket is a relaxed fit. This music video had some of the most advanced and revolutionary dance techniques ever to be used, and he needed clothing that allowed him to complete these difficult moves without any interference.

With how many difficult and fast steps there are, having loose pants would have been an interference. Similarly, the loose jacket of his costume allowed for the full range of motions needed for moves that fully involved the arms. These dance moves, even more than the makeup, gave the sensation that Michael Jackson was "undead." The jerky movements, only magnified by the sunken face and bulging eyes, create a very real "thriller" sensation.

Now, with Halloween approaching, a lot of people are wanting to pay homage to the King of Pop. With it being Halloween, the Thriller costume seems to the most appropriate to many. A few words to advice to all the Thriller hopefuls out there, though! First, if you're going to get the outfit and you're not as fit as Michael was, then don't wear the tight pants! (We don't want to see that, trust me.) Second, if you're going to do it, you've got to learn the dance as a tribute.

Buying a Michael Jackson Thriller Halloween Costume

Michael Jackson

"It's close to midnight, and something evil's lurking in the dark..."

This line is now famous for opening Michael Jackson's Thriller video - an epic 14-minute long piece that would go on to be named the Guinness Book of World Record's "Most Successful Music Video" ever. Whether you were born before or after the video's 1983 release date, you're probably still familiar with the classic "zombie" dance moves that made this music video so popular.

The video's creepy setting and lyrics make it the perfect inspiration for a Michael Jackson Halloween costume this year. Recreate Michael's look for yourself or disguise yourself as one of the video's zombie and werewolf dancers - just remember to learn the dance moves for yourself so that you can perform throughout the night!

The look itself isn't that difficult to recreate. For the majority of the video, Michael wears a red vinyl jacket and pants set, highlighted with black trim in a "V" pattern across his chest and back. The easiest way to put together a Michael Jackson Thriller Halloween costume this year is to simply buy a ready-made replica, since you won't have to worry about tracking down different pieces on your own.

However, if you're on a budget, don't worry - you can still put together this iconic look. First, check your local thrift stores for red leather jackets and pants. You can always add the black stripes with electrical tape or fabric paint on your own. If you can't find the correct style in leather, you can always look for red pieces made out of denim, cotton or knit fabrics that might work as well.

Michael Jackson's Thriller Autograph

Michael Jackson

The market for Michael Jackson autographs has skyrocketed since his early demise. For many fans of the king of pop, acquiring an autograph of Michael Jackson is a way of remembering and making tribute to one of the greatest entertainers of our time. Something as personal as an autograph is a fabulous memento that Jackson fans appreciate. A signature of Jackson is as close to their idol as a fan can possibly be; a true thrill.

As Jackson memorabilia has skyrocketed in value, so have his autographs. Autographs on photos that sold for $50 to $150 before his death now fetch five to twenty times that much. Autographs on documents such as contracts and checks, are now commanding premium prices.

Similarly, as the market for Jackson's autograph has escalated, so has the number of fraudulent items that claim to bear his authentic signature. Since he had business managers pay most of his expenses, authentic checks signed by Jackson are rare, especially checks written for the decade prior to his death.

Checks purportedly written by Jackson occasionally surface on Internet auction sites. It is important to recognize some of the features that indicate a fraudulent Michael Jackson check. Some of the clear signs that indicate a fraudulent check include: a counter check without identifying information, a check that has not been deposited by the bank for signature verification, and handwriting that is suspect.

Michael Jackson reached the top of the music world and became known across the world as the modern king of pop. His memorabilia has become as thrilling as his music. For many fans, signatures of Michael Jackson are a treasured memento of this American music icon.

Michael Jackson's Thriller - Album Review

Image : http://www.flickr.com

People often talk about how the amount of copies Michael Jackson's 1982 album Thriller has sold. People often bring up that it's the biggest selling album of all time. They bring up all of the awards it's won.

All of that stuff is great for the trivia nerd in all of us (and I've certainly got one in me) but what really makes Thriller remarkable is the music itself. While most pop music from 1982 sounds positively dated today, I believe most of the tracks from Thriller still sound just as fresh in 2009 as they did 27 years earlier.

The album opener "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" is the most over the top song on the album and it says something that he opens the album with this one. There's so much packed into this song, it's bursting at the seams. These days most hit songs have about 1/3 of the imagination that this song has packed into it (and that's being generous.)

The three most known songs on the album are "Thriller," "Billie Jean," & "Beat It." In fact these are arguably the three most well known songs of Michael Jackson's entire career. Amazingly they come one right after the other on the album. How many albums have three songs that memorable one after the other?

It seems the music video for "Thriller" is talked about all the time. But what about the song itself? The video wouldn't have been so great if there wasn't an awesome soundtrack for it.

"Billie Jean" is so great that it really doesn't even need me to say anything about it here. It's the ultimate dance pop song. It demands you to the dance floor but it also has an irresistible melody and interesting lyrics that beg you to sing along.

"Beat It" featured rock guitarist Eddie Van Halen. When you think about it, that's quite an interesting move to make for an R&B pop artist like Michael Jackson. People forget what an original idea it was for him to do such a rocking tune at that time. His groundbreaking ideas were so influential that it's difficult to see them in their original context now.

Those three songs are fantastic but it's some of the others that really tickle me these days. "PYT (Pretty Young Thing)," "Human Nature," & "Baby Be Mine" are all wonderful songs that were not huge hits so they sometimes get overlooked by casual fans. These are great songs. Forget the "Greatest Hits" albums because they don't include great songs like these. You need to get Thriller.

Even the album's lesser songs have their moments and their charms. "The Girl is Mine" is a silly duet with Beatles legend Paul McCartney but it's actually quite enjoyable once you accept it for what it is. "The Lady in my Life" takes awhile to get going but once the groove sets in, it's a cool song.

One thing that I definitely feel is too often overlooked with Michael Jackson is his songwriting ability and Thriller was really the first proof that he was a great songwriter (although he did write one song, the #1 hit "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough" for Off the Wall.)

Michael Jackson has the sole songwriting credit on four of the nine songs on this remarkable album: "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'," "Billie Jean," "Beat It," & "The Girl is Mine." Writing four songs for Thriller was just the beginning, because from 1987's Bad through 2001's Invincible Jackson would write about 90% of his album's original songs (I'm not counting his covers of "Smile" & "Come Together" in my quick & dirty estimate.)

Where to Buy Thriller Jackets

If you are a Michael Jackson fan then you will probably want to purchase some of his memorabilia and you can easily do this online. You can find your favorite items like the thriller jackets and albums from various websites and online stores.

You can also get these items from other fans that are offering to sell them. Usually you can get special classified adverts for these types of items, but you can also find that people have dedicated an entire website to selling their Thriller jackets and other memorabilia.

You might be wondering why anyone would want to sell these items. Well, there are many reasons. For those collectors they might have too many of the same thing, or perhaps they had to tidy out their home and choose some of their items to sell. You might discover that someone got married and their partner did not want these collectible items around their home.

You never know people's reasons for selling things like a Thriller jacket, so you should not judge and be suspicious of the item. Of course you will want to make sure that you are getting the real deal and that you are not getting something damaged. When you purchase online this is likely, so you have to make sure that you get lots of photos or if you are in the same area, it is advisable to go and look at it in person.

Normally though, the item are sold and bought countries apart, so you will have to take the seller's word that the item is in perfect condition. You can also secure the item and make sure that it is what you want by placing the money into an escrow account. In this way you cannot get the money back, but the seller cannot get it either until you have received the jacket.

Once you are satisfied then you can release the payment. If there is something wrong with it, you can send it back and get your money back. With most Michael Jackson fanatics you can usually trade items. Let's say you want to get the Thriller jacket and someone else wants the signed Thriller Album that you happen to have.

You can easily do a swap which is easy and hassle free. You will obviously have to work out if there are any price differences and sort out the balance, but in this way you can both get what you want.

Getting Your Hands on a Michael Jackson Thriller Costume

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The Michael Jackson Thriller video is one of the most famous video clips of all time. That single film clip changed the way film clips were both produced and viewed. The video set the world record for the "Most Successful Music Video", as well as being the first music video to reach the 14 minute mark. The video was seen more as a mini-movie more so than a video clip featuring a singer or band standing in front of microphones either singing or dancing. It also launched the type of video clips everybody became accustomed to when it came to the iconic Michael Jackson.

The video was very dark, under the setting of a full moon, which most people associate with ghosts, goblins, goons, vampires and wolves. This type of setting suited the video down to the ground and the choreography was also something not seen on a video clip previous to this. The dance moves have been imitated by many, but none more than since Michael Jackson's recent passing.

The Thriller Costume as worn by Michael in the video is one which can be quite easy to copy if you have the inclination for such a thing. The red vinyl jacket matched with red pants were fairly simple in design, but also a black "V" which went from the bottom of the back and looped over the shoulder to finish at the front of the jacket. Doing something similar in cotton can be done with decent effect and will allow everybody to understand what you're trying to pull off.

Another way to get put a Thriller Costume together is to look around second hand shops to see if you can stumble across a similar red jacket and pants outfit. The black "V" should be easy enough to copy by using something like black electrical tape or crepe paper sticky taped on. You may also be able to find a red leather jacket in the stores which could also work well.

You can actually hire these costumes from costume hire places, but the price can be fairly expensive. It can end up being costly by hiring them and you also must return them which leaves you with nothing at the end of the day compared to making/buying your own.

By far, the best way to get your hands on a authentic looking costume is to buy one. There are many choices to buying costumes, but the best way is finding Thriller Costumes that are officially licensed and authentic. You can also buy many accessories like the shiny glove and the black fedora hat. To add that extra flare to the costume, buy a wolf mask and become Michael Jackson once the full moon is out.

"It's close to midnight, and something evil's lurking in the dark....."

Top Selling Vinyl Records of 2009 - Abbey Road by the Beatles & Thriller by Michael Jackson

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The numbers for the top selling new vinyl records of 2009 out and they're very interesting. As a big Beatles fan I think it's pretty great that Abbey Road (which was released 40 years previous in 1969) was the top selling vinyl LP of the year with 34,800 sales. Abbey Road was also the second biggest seller on this same chart for 2008.

The second biggest seller was the vinyl version of Michael Jackson's 1982 album Thriller which sold just under 30,000 copies. Of course with MJ's death in June all things Michael Jackson were big sellers this year (he was easily the biggest selling artist of the year overall.)

You may be thinking that it's only older albums that are selling in the vinyl market, that it's a purely nostalgia driven thing but that's not the case. The #3 biggest seller was actually a 2009 release; Animal Collective's critically acclaimed Merriweather Post Pavilion, although it was substantially behind the best two sellers with a total of 14,000 sales.

Also the biggest selling vinyl artist overall was not The Beatles or Michael Jackson but instead Radiohead who sold over 45,000 copies of their albums in the vinyl format. The Beatles were second at 38,800 which raises the question: Why did the "Fab Four" only sell 4,000 copies of all of their other albums combined while Abbey Road sold 34,400? The answer is that Abbey Road is the only Beatles album currently in print in vinyl.

Many Beatles fans are hoping that changes in 2010 as there are rumors that the band's entire catalog will be rereleased in vinyl with the new pressings being based on the new 2009 remasters.

Be a Thriller This Halloween With a Michael Jackson Mask!

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Michael Jackson Halloween masks promise to be an eye-catching Halloween costume. After the star's untimely death in 2009, many fans are interested in dressing up as their pop music idol. If you decide to get a Michael Jackson face mask for your Halloween costume this year, here are some "king of pop" video-inspired ideas to complete your look!

The king of pop

One of Michael Jackson's more popular looks was a navy blue military style jacket with epaulettes, and "high water" black pants, which are shortened above the ankle. The famous accents are one silver-sequined glove, matching socks, and dark aviator sunglasses.

Thriller

In this popular Halloween video, "MJ" wore a red jacket with two diagonal black stripes on the front. If you have a similar red leather or "Members Only" style jacket, add black "high water" pants, and black loafers to complete the look.

Smooth Criminal

This look had MJ dressed in a white suit with matching white fedora. Of course, the white pants are "high-water" style! Add a black shirt with white skinny tie. Finish this look with a black arm band for contrast, and you're all set!

Rock with You

This video featured Michael wearing a simple black tuxedo with a black bowtie, and his trademark "high water" pants which are shortened above the ankle.

If none of these ideas appeal to you, you can always just go for a navy military-style or red leather jacket, and add the silver sequin glove and/or socks. If you're wearing a Michael Jackson mask, you will be easily recognizable!

Of course, if all else fails, just visit YouTube to get inspiration from any one of Michael Jackson's music videos.

Michael Jackson

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, entertainer and businessman. The seventh child of the Jackson family, he made his debut on the professional music scene in 1968 as a member of The Jackson 5. He then began a solo career in 1971 while still a member of the group and was referred to as the "King of Pop" in subsequent years. Jackson's 1982 album Thriller remains the world's best-selling album of all time, and four of his other solo studio albums are among the world's best-selling records: Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991) and HIStory (1995).
In the early 1980s, he became a dominant figure in popular music and the first African American entertainer to amass a strong crossover following on MTV. The popularity of his music videos airing on MTV, such as "Beat It", "Billie Jean" and "Thriller" — widely credited with transforming the music video from a promotional tool into an art form — helped bring the relatively new channel to fame. Videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream" made Jackson an enduring staple on MTV in the 1990s. With stage performances and music videos, Jackson popularized a number of physically complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style influenced many hip hop, pop and contemporary R&B artists across several generations.
Jackson donated and raised millions of dollars for beneficial causes through his foundations, charity singles, and support of 39 charities. Other aspects of his personal life, including his often changing appearances and eccentric behavior, generated significant controversy which damaged his public image. Though he was accused of child sexual abuse in 1993, the criminal investigation was closed due to lack of evidence and Jackson was not charged. The singer had experienced health concerns since the early 1990s along with conflicting reports regarding the state of his finances since the late 1990s. Jackson married twice and brought up three children, actions which caused further controversy. In 2005, Jackson was tried and acquitted of further sexual abuse allegations and several other charges.
One of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, his other achievements include multiple Guinness World Records — including one for "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time" — 13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his solo career, and the sale of 750 million records worldwide. On June 25, 2009, Jackson was found unconscious in his bed by his personal physician and was taken to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. He was pronounced dead at 2:26 pm PDT (21:26 UTC) on the same day. At the time of his death, he was preparing and rehearsing for This Is It, a series of 50 concerts that would have been held in London beginning July 13, 2009.
