The Michael Jackson Juggernaut - What Small Business Owners Can Learn From Him About Business

Love him or hate him, everyone has an opinion about Michael Jackson. I'm not here to tell you how to feel about him or his passing. The one thing that remained consistent throughout Michael Jackson's life was the love-hate relationship the media had with him. He was a master at spinning whatever negative press he received into a positive for his brand. The rest of this article will share some more insights about what you can learn from this legendary performer and how you can apply these things to your business.

He stayed at the top of his game no matter what was going on in the outside world. As I'm sure you are aware, this great performer had his fair share of detractors. That didn't stop him from cranking of pop" managed to make the bad news work in his favor. Despite all the allegations about his personal life, the man was still able to sell out his concerts all over the world. The takeaway here is not to let negative press be the end of the world. Just find a way to bounce back from it and keep on moving.

Michael Jackson

One thing everyone agrees about when discussing Michael Jackson is that he was an outstanding performer. He will live on in our memories because of the work ethic he had. He didn't put out junk just because that's what everyone else was doing. He never strayed from his own sound or unique brand. That's an important lesson for us all. Stay true to yourself and your brand no matter what. Then you too will be able to leave behind a legacy of excellence.

The Devil and Michael Jackson - How Business Became Him

Image : http://www.flickr.com

It may be old news to some, but I find myself still thinking about the life and death of Michael Jackson. It's not only that i spent virtually a whole day listening to, watching and downloading some of his great video performances; it's also that my need to ponder his life, its meaning, and the nature of his genius has devoured a lot of personal time.

This morning my psychotherapist mate Dr. Mallory Nash and I spent a couple of hours discussing just this: to what extent was Jackson the master of his own destiny, how many of the risks he took or shrewd business decisions he made - such as buying the Beatles back catalogue, or wresting his own from Sony - were his own, the outcome of his eccentricities? Or were these, in truth, actions of a smart entrepreneur who had real business acumen and surrounded himself with the best people to realise it?

What emerged eventually was unexpected, for the two of us found ourselves discussing Jackson not in terms of great musicians or show-biz personalities like Elvis, Sinatra, Bob Dylan or Johnny Cash, but in relation to people who were both mad and at the centre of great economic or even political empires - Robert Maxwell, Hearst, Howard Hughes - even Adolf Hitler. People who understood power, and whose personal visions and eccentricities others carried out into reality - sometimes with painful or even terrifying and historic consequences.

I don't in any away attribute "evil" to Michael Jackson; clearly that is not the case. But because of the masterful way he used the machine in which he was, at first and like so many others, just a cog, we may never really understand what was real and what was unreal about him, or where the lines between show business, character and madness lay. For instance: at what point did Jackson's body begin to refuse to do what he wanted it to? Clearly in some ways the later surgeries were desperate attempts to deal with flesh and bone that would not heal; but at what point did he decide that he should look like an anime figure? Was that decision the cause of the problem, or its effect?

And how could anyone, at fifty, to whom being top was so important, surpass the performances he'd given as a younger man? Looking at the dance footage from those previous times, and knowing about the physical wear and tear that extreme dance and its related injuries leave over time on great dancers like Nureyev, we have to ask whether the prospect of physical failure at the enormous task he'd undertaken was one of main the things that killed him. Or even... No.

Speculation is delicious, but really quite useless. Such boundaries as these - between "reality", history, fact, and fiction - are artificial, anyway - and one thing Jackson clearly understood better than anyone was the importance of leaving us ever-wanting more.

If any of the gossip surrounding his estate - such as the existence of a large catalogue of unpublished songs - is true, Jackson's influence on the business world will outlive him by many many years. Not only because of his prodigious talent as a performer but also because of his insight into tinsel heart of the industry he grew up in and manipulated- the huge economic circus that is the Empire of Pop - was he its king.

Michael Jackson Forces Cash Into Your Business?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Hi there,

Did you notice how some people have made hundreds of thousands of dollars from Michael Jackson's death? I'm not talking about the tasteless ones, but smart thinkers who took action and bought up names surrounding his that skyrocketed in value after his death. Ones who will make a quick $100,000 or more.

And others who took action and used it to bring new found customers into their business too. Specifically what I'm talking about here is how you can use current events to help boost your profits.

It's easier than you think. And it's almost always applicable. An easy way to get people's attention (which is the hardest part of making a sale) is to tie your promotion into current events. And if you're at a loss for current events just pull up cnn.com or watch your local news.

There's always something going on in the world that you can use. Either in...

1. World news

2. National news

3. Local news

Your only excuse for not finding something that works is simply laziness.

So How Can You Tie It Into Your Promotion?

A little creativity goes a long way here. Let's say you own a furniture store. When Obama was inagurated you could have run an ad saying something like..."Obama Forces Local Furniture Store Into Dropping Prices For Inaguration".

And then you go on to tell how you're giving a super sale during the weekend to celebrate the new president coming on board.

Not only is tying in current events into your promotion a good way to get attention from prospects, but it's also a great way to get publicity.

Most local news networks love this type of advertising. And if you run with it many will get involved and give you free advertising (called publicity).

Plus... as an added bonus... if you live outside of a huge metropolitan area most local news stations/papers love to pick up these kind of stories.

You can turn $1 of advertising into $3 or $4.

So what can you do to tie your promotion into current events?

Get to thinking... it'll be worth it!

Vince

P.S. I've decided I'm going to help those who are action takers. If you're one of the first 3 people to email me your promotion... and... you tie it into a local event... I'll review it and turn your ad into a killer promotion for FREE. I don't need to tell you I usually charge $1,000 for this. So the first 3 people are going to get a huge gift. Send it to damnprofitablemarketing@gmail.com with the subject line: "current events promo"

Get to action...
