Lessons From Musical Icon Michael Jackson

I still find it hard to believe that Michael Jackson is gone, yet the reality of his absence has forced us all to reflect on what an amazing musical artist and human being he was. Michael Jackson was the epitome of a musical icon. He earned his iconic status through consistently being original, innovative, generous and resilient. Though he is now gone, everyone, especially business owners and leaders, can learn from his unforgettable style.

He Exemplified Originality- Michael Jackson was an original; he created music, fashion and dance trends. From his red leather jacket, the moon walk, to his heart felt lyrics; he was an original. Follow your own lead, copycats get lumped in with everyone else. Be original in your approach , services and delivery. Throw out the cookie cutter and be original.

Michael Jackson

He was Innovative- He was a forward thinking entertainer that had the ability to create music that set the standard for all others. Are you creating new ways to satisfy your customers? MJ's musical innovation earned him 13 Grammy Awards and 13 number one hits. Don't just think outside the box - implement out side the box. Innovation will keep the customers you have and bring in new ones.

Lessons From Musical Icon Michael Jackson

He was Generous- He was known for his generosity and compassion. In fact he was so generous that he obtained a Guinness World Record for the 39 charities he supported, which was more than any other entertainer or personality. You may not have the millions Michael Jackson had to give away, but start where you are. Give of your time, talents and whatever money you are able to give. Generosity goes a long way and it always comes back to you.

He was Resilient - We all watched during Michael's most difficult moments of humiliation on more than one occasion. His resilience was notable. Tough times will come; you'll be prepared for some, and others will catch you off guard. During challenging times, decide you will not give up and turn lemon into lemon juice. Remember: this too, shall pass.

May Michael Jackson's unforgettable legacy of originality, innovation, generosity and resilience live on as we conduct our lives and lead others to do the same.

Michael Jackson and Arfaq

Michael Jackson, Arfaq, Balmain and the Clothes that set Todays Fashion

Billie Jean Tux

Michael Jackson

Jackson's contemporary take on the tuxedo was groundbreaking of pop himself grew to favor.

Michael Jackson and Arfaq

Military Man

The military look - with lashings of gold embroidery and sequins - was one of Jacko's most compelling and copied styles. Balmain paid tribute and Rihanna tried the look. Jackson himself wore this Balmain jacket on a hospital visit.

The military look, worn on the Dangerous Tour in 1992, is arguably classic Jackson. It's a style that he has refined over the years and it inspired Balmain's Autumn/Winter 09 collection. It was designed by Denis Tompkins and Michael Jackson was very fond of his military details as they had clean lines and fitted almost like dance clothes. Further- more, uniforms demand attention.

'Magician's Fall' Military Half Jacket

'Magicians Fall', designed by Arfaq for Michael Jackson, is a military half jacket, designed from black dress suede. The garment demonstrates a very simple cut and fall and is very comfortable to wear. In return, this jacket is lined in a fine black silk and is flamboyantly decorated with 18ct gold buckles.

Gangster Style Smooth Criminal

The gangster-style suit from Smooth Criminal was designed by Betty Madden and is a homage to Fred Astaire's outfit in the 1953 film The Bandwagon. It was much slicker than the costumes Jackson wore in the early Eighties. To achieve the impossible effect of leaning that far forward in this picture he wore shoes that used special harnesses with wires and magnets.

The World's First Pair of Adjustable Shoes

Arfaq designed and developed custom-made shoes for Michael Jackson. These shoes were made to electronically self adjust to his foot. The concept was created because his production company, MJJ Productions, did not disclose his shoe size!

Hat Tricks

Jackson had the ability to take a simple fashion item and invest it with iconic status. His tilted fedora is a good example. It became more than simply a hat. It was an extension of the man and of his dancing. He used it to create drama. The look is now popular with Kate Moss, who uses hers to hide from photographers.

The Bad Days

For the Bad album, Jackson toughened up his image with masses of belts, buckles, studs and straps, but it was always more glam than intimidating. Mary-Kate Olsen wears the Givenchy version of the Bad look.

1990s Glitter

Jackson and sparkles go hand in hand. He loved to shine and was one of the first to wear clothes entirely encrusted with Swarovski crystals.

The Swarovski Black Diamond Glove

In 1994, Arfaq made a Black Swarovski diamond glove for Michael Jackson known as "Healing Hands", which was worn by Michael Jackson on the HIstory Tour. Handmade with 18,443 diamond stones imported from Austria, from the legendary Swarovski Crystal House, the specially formulated adhesive allows total control and movement.

Five 9ct Egyptian gold buckles fasten the glove in place, each buckle is extremely light, thus preventing distortion of the finished glove.

His look inspired this Antonio Berardi catwalk style. Today, sequins work for day and evening wear.

The Velvet and Crystal Jacket

When Michael Jackson celebrated 30 years in music at Madison Square Gardens in and was presented a velvet and crystal jacket designed by Arfaq.

A Thriller of a Jacket

The flamboyant red leather jacket Jackson wore in the Thriller video is one of his most memorable looks. It wasn't so much the colour or the style that were important, but the way he wore it, with the sleeves pushed up past his elbows. With that simple styling tick, he set a trend that lasted a decade.

This is one of Jackson's most iconic outfits. The bold red leather jacket with exaggerated shoulders is from the video to Thriller. Fast forward 25 years and leather jackets and coloured jeans are enjoying a revival.

The World's Most Expensive Cufflinks in GBWR

In 1996, The Guinness Book of World Records listed the V2 Cufflinks as "The World's most expensive cufflinks" designed by Arfaq. The pair were privately sold to Michael Jackson and MJJ Productions for £23,850 in November 1996.

Made from platinum and 18ct yellow and white gold, the V2 cufflinks are adorned with sapphires and diamonds, and individually hallmarked and numbered.

The V2 Cufflinks are presented in a handcrafted Burr Elm case. Each tailor-made case is lined with contrasting scarlet red suede. Each case bears the individual number and recipients name on a 24ct gold plate. With production limited to 7 pairs only, this makes it an extremely rare piece of jewelry.

Michael Jackson Costume

If you're considering a Michael Jackson costume this year for Halloween, then we've got a few hints and tips for you. With so much having been created by the king of pop, there are dozens of different options for a Michael Jackson costume. In fact, if you're feeling up to it, we think a Michael Jackson themed party would be absolutely killer! Every person dressing in a different iconic Michael Jackson costume would be a smash hit, and with so many options to choose from, it's entirely plausible.

But what are these options, and what else do you need to consider? We'll go over them briefly.

Michael Jackson

First of all, here are some of your basic options, and their complexity:

Michael Jackson Costume

* Billy Jean. This relatively simple outfit is made up of white boots, black leather pants, a leather jacket, and a pink shirt and bow tie.

* Beat It (T-Shirt option). There are a couple of options from this video, and the first is the easiest Michael Jackson costume out there. It's comprised of the keyboard shirt and red pants.

* Beat It (Full costume). This is a somewhat more complex outfit, mostly because you can't buy a red jacket like this local. It also involves a very particular multicolored shirt. The black pants and white shoes are things you can pick up without a specialty store, though.

* Smooth Criminal. I personally love this outfit, but it's tricky. The all white 50s style suit, with the matching white fedora, white tie, and blue shirt, is a great Michael Jackson costume, but unless you go with a specialty store, a white fedora like this is just going to be plain hard to find. White ties and suits are also pretty rare.

* Thriller. Of course, this is the most appropriate costume for Halloween, and it looks great (and is very iconic). It is, however, basically impossible to do this Michael Jackson costume without a specialty store, since you can't pick up pants or a jacket like this at any normal clothing outlet.

* Bad. This sort of costume is easy to make a similar set for, but it's unfortunately tricky to get an exact match unless you go with a specialty store. If you want to make a similar set, hop into a local "Hot Topic" store. This sort of style is actually very popular right now (thank you emo kids!), so you can grab similar jackets and gloves without issue. A similar belt and boots are going to be harder to find, and the simplest option, again, becomes a specialty store.

* Michael Jackson. You can dress up as Michael Jackson himself from the 80s, or from more recent times. Try to do more than just a glove, though. Because that's lame.

Whatever you do, checking out the Michael Jackson music videos on YouTube is a really good place to start, to be sure you capture the costume accurately. Also, if you're going to do a specialty store, plan ahead and go online -- you can save lots of cash by going with an online specialty store over local places. Of course, you have to wait for shipping, so jump on it by mid-October if you want to make the costume work.

Iconic Funerals - Michael Jackson (1958 - 2009)

On June 25th 2009, the world stood still as news spread that Michael Jackson had died after a suffering cardiac arrest at his LA mansion.

Internet search engine, Google, shut down as it interpreted the sheer volume of searches for "Michael Jackson" as an automated attack; and, within a few hours of the news breaking of pop was back on top of the charts thanks to radio airplay and downloads.

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson was one of the most commercially successful artists of all time. A double-inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, his other achievements feature multiple Guinness World Records - including the "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time", 13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles, and the sale of over 750 million records.

Iconic Funerals - Michael Jackson (1958 - 2009)

Michael's career began in 1964 as the youngest member of the Jackson 5. Enduring a difficult and lonely childhood growing up in the public eye, and suffering beatings at the hands of his father, a teenage Michael launched his solo career in 1971.

In 1982, Michael released "Thriller", the biggest-selling album of all time, with 110 million copies sold worldwide. It stayed in the top 10 for 80 consecutive weeks, with 37 at Number 1, and the accompanying music video pioneered a new direction for the music industry.

Michael Jackson was an inspiring showman. His halftime act at Super Bowl XXVII attracted more viewers than the Superbowl itself, and he constantly strived to upstage himself by incorporating stunts such as the infamous 'moonwalk' and flying via rocket pack to ensure every show was better than the last.

But despite his musical success, Michael battled very public demons in his private life.

Media speculation arose over his frequently changing appearance, most notably the surgery to his nose and alleged bleaching of the skin. Yet it transpired that Michael suffered from vitiligo and lupus, which lightened his skin and caused sensitivity to sunlight.

Michael married twice; first to Elvis's daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, then to Debbie Rowe, the mother of his eldest two children. His third child, whom Michael dangled from his hotel balcony, was born from a surrogate, fuelling the tabloids to record other strange behaviour, such as buying a pet chimpanzee and sleeping in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber.

But 'Wacko Jacko' was in the media spotlight for far more serious and sinister reasons in 1993 and 2003, when he was accused of child sexual abuse at his Neverland Ranch.

Michael said that the 25-minute strip search he endured to prove his innocence was one of the most humiliating ordeals of his life, from which he never fully recovered. He began taking painkillers and sedatives to ease the panic attacks he suffered as a result of the allegations, and his health deteriorated.

During the investigations, mental health professional Dr. Stan Katz said Michael; who claimed, 'I am Peter Pan'; was a regressed 10-year-old, and did not fit the profile of a pedophile.

Having disappeared from the public eye until March 2009, Michael announced his final ten shows at London's O2 Arena. However, demand forced the residency to be extended to fifty nights, to commence on July 13th 2009.

Much speculation has arisen over the star's physical health for such a mammoth tour, and whether this was to blame for the cardiac arrest, although rumours are rife of murder, overdose and still being alive. Only time will tell.

Michael Jackson's private funeral service was held on July 7th 2009 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park's Hall of Liberty, followed by a public memorial at LA's Staples Center, where the 'Artist of the Decade (1980's)' had been rehearsing, which was watched by over 30million people.

Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson, Usher and Jermaine Jackson sang tributes, Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson gave eulogies, while Reverend Al Sharpton received a standing ovation when he told Jackson's children, "There wasn't nothing strange about your daddy. It was strange what your daddy had to deal with."

Mourners remembered Michael for his talents, success, generosity and attempts to 'Heal the World' through launching the Heal the World Foundation and further charity work. In 2000, he broke the Guinness World Record for his support of 39 charities (more than any other entertainer or personality), to which he donated millions.

Michael's 11-year-old daughter, Paris, cried as she told the crowd, "Ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine."

Marlon Jackson spoke of his brother's troubles, stating, "we will never, never, understand what he endured. Not being able to walk across the street without a crowd gathered around, being judged, being ridiculed. How much pain can one take? Maybe now, Michael, they will leave you alone."
